Critical Reflection | Blog Post #49

When I first began this entire process, I was clueless and immature . I had no idea how much effort I would have to put in day in and day out. I planned to do things in a perfect world which led to many setbacks . I had no consideration for my timing or other time or lives. The research I did helped me gain a better grasp of exactly what I am dealing with. I like to inform myself often of the world and what is going on. I tend to remember information much more easily if it piques my interest. In contrast, in cinematography as a director, it is interesting to me to realize the actions done and taken in films as well as have a more informed opinion on the film and what I am viewing. As I have moved along in my research throughout the film , I have felt like I am striking something big, exposing media attention to an audience normally not spoken to. I felt like my inclusive actions would shine amongst the films of this year. Yet the idea I had in mind was beyond ...

Animation and Documentaries | Blog Post #45

Image
Going back to edutainment (i still don't like that word), we discussed creating a visual appeal to the documentary to engage audiences to have them learn and additionally entertain them. Here we have exhibit A where animation comes into play. It is an effective educational tool that can simplify complex content for better understanding for viewers of all ages. It further allows for a higher accessibility rate for audiences who may not understand English so well so that they can follow along in the content.  Animation can also help maintain viewer interest, especially in documentaries that deal with data-heavy or technical content. The dynamic and visually engaging nature of animation can captivate audiences and keep them engaged throughout the documentary. The other day i mentioned that my documentary may be experimental as its going to be a hybrid of presentational infographics and video. So i will be implementing animation for that portion of infographics so i can better engage t...

Davinci's Legacy Lives on | Blog Post #44

Image
You might be wondering: What does Leonardo Davinci and you have in common? The answer to that question is nothing. In fact i have no care for the "Leonardo", today I'm only focusing on the "Davinci" part. A name as iconic his has some powerful merits to it. Its easy advertisement, and represents a group as of high quality and innovative as a reflection of Davinci's work. Why the sudden interest in him? Well I'm glad you asked, I'm going to be using for my editing software Davinci Resolve. This software is very good so much so to the point where entire films have been edited on it. It has plenty of color editing innovative features that are used for post production to get the desired scene. So why this software? This film is going to be largely having plenty of natural scenes and natural lighting. On the strict timing period that we are on, we wont be able to get perfect lighting for each and every shot. As a result, this would correct any scenes with...

Music and Films Research | Blog Post #43

The more and more i thought about my documentary, the more and more i have realized something. Should the film be accompanied only by my melodic voice? Or should it also be accompanied by music? As far back as i can remember, i have always remembered music being in films. So why is that? Music has the effect of emotional impact on audiences. It can make them feel a certain way and evoke emotions that is fitting to the scene being watched. It can also aid with the setting of the film and reinforce the brilliant narrative that shall be delivered by yours truly. It also adds to the time and pacing in films which further helps create the seamless transition to frantic scenes for example in a film. It has the ability to connect cultures and represent them too!  So it seems that music is a definite yes when it comes to films and i shall employ the use of a low quite but relaxing toon. Something similar to that of rain and also go well with my voice in order to make this documentary easy ...

Alternative Locations | Blog Post #42

Image
After a few more days of visiting our chosen location in Tampa, Florida, i decided, i milked this cash cow dry. You see its surrounded by man made buildings and it almost shatters the nature-esc idea of the chosen area. As a result, I have opted to switch to another location. Most notably, a park in Shady Hills. As shown by the picture, this location is surrounded by plenty of nature with a woody feel and untouched almost except for the deck. It would be perfect to film some content of the birds and some establishing shots here.  Thank you for reading this post! I'll keep you all updated soon!

Climate Change and the Avians Part 2 | Blog Post #41

Image
As you might have noticed and the sarcastic hints in my captions on the Instagram, this film might mention something about climate change. So before you get your hopes up about sustainability and climate change in the cinematographic world, just know that this might be a let down... BUT if it were to be, it could create a lot of publicity, maybe negative publicity but its still publicity right? In all seriousness, the real world data and the correlation of this documentary to bring todays world on Sandhill cranes will only inform audiences and help them look at our Red and Grey friends in a different light. In the next post ill be discussion an alternative location for filming!

My Photographic Decision | Blog Post #40

Image
To get to the point, we are going with the OnePlus Nord N30 5G phone. While we lose out on professionalism, the non-negotiable time constraint takes priority. As for the storage problem, ill buy an external hard drive and transfer all the video and photos to it to make sure we don't run out. And by we i mean me. The phone is already with me, so there is no need to wait for it to arrive or waste anymore unnecessary time. With the camera dilemma out of the way we can focus on furthering are advertisement and hints in our Instagram! Keep following along for more content and updates here !

Alternative Cameras | Blog Post #39

Image
As Camera's life had sputtered and sparked one final time, I had received a most terrible revelation that the angel of death, had come for poor Camera's soul. While Camera had a short life it as impactful and it helped produce my filming. A moment of silence for Camera please... ANYWAYS, with the that short drama out of the way, we need to find an alternative camera to film and take pictures with. I mentioned a couple of weeks back that i have matured and gotten myself a job. As such I have also gained the ability to buy items and the beloved Amazon Prime (I'm a little sad it auto charges you each month).  As such, a couple months ago i bought myself a new phone with a better camera as i was sick of the old camera and its lower quality. I also bought it because it had a much longer battery life than my former phone. That being said this phone is the OnePlus N30 5G 2023. Its a recent phone with a 108 megapixel camera and can take pictures quite well. However, we could alway...

Presentational Development Research | Blog Post #38

Image
I'll get straight to the point this time and be outright with it. I want to implement a hybrid of both filmed and presentational content. Would that mean that this is an experimental documentary? Possibly, however regardless the state of the film, the film still aims to inform viewers in an infographic type style. Integrating these infographic presentations in the documentary would lead to enhancement of cinematic experience through the use of animations. Additionally, it would provide background information and help make it visually interesting due to creative visual techniqu es.  It can also be a good way to address contemporary issues. This would additionally allow both visual and audible learners to both engage and grasp the content talked about. The addition of the infographics would aid my audience coverage and further enhance my storytelling. In the next post ill be talking about The Camera Conundrum.

Progress Update | Blog Post #37

As a recap, the original idea was to complete all of my advertising in a single week. Now lets be honest, i know you all thought, that's unrealistic and he wont do it. I'm here to tell you that, that's unrealistic and I couldn't do it. Now that's not to be confused with me not doing it at all, in fact i had almost half the advertising done in this period of time. My current plan is to film and edit during this week and provide you with updates and behind the scenes shots as part of the advertising. This way we can knock out 2 birds with one stone. The previous sentence wasn't supposed to be funny, but it is as this film is all about birds. Additionally, i plan to keep you all updated with my significant progress all throughout this week as our deadline nears with these posts. Thank you all for your dedication to seeing and following this work to the end! I'll update you again very soon!

Climate Change and the Avians | Blog Post #36

Image
We have all heard that  word before right? Everyone and their mother have heard about the word. Grade Seven students are exposed to it and make science fair projects about how volcanoes release sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide  into the atmosphere. That  word is the reason we have floods in places where floods shouldn't be and where birds are migrating to early. That  word is Climate Change. Now of all the bizarre examples, birds migrating too early is what we are here to talk about. Specifically, Sandhill Cranes are migrating from Canada back down to the US too soon. As the article mentioned, the warmer temperatures in this region is causing them to come back earlier. Now as they come back sooner, so too does the issues that come with it. These birds migratory pattern could be a spell of a sign of impending disaster for how this change in behavior may force them to adapt to newer situations or similarly lead to a hunger games style of mass culling of the population...

Camera Problems | Blog Post #35

Image
Do you guys remember how in my previous film i bought a camera for that film? Well while the camera worked and very much went off without a hitch, the life expectancy of the camera is what's coming into question. The Wolfgang Ga100 is a cheap camera. While it fit my budget and timings of the time,  I think it was too much of me to ask for another use out of it. One of the most restrictive issues I had with the camera is the battery. The battery has about 20 minutes of life in it according to the advertising. The camera came with two batteries; this means that there is about 40 minutes of film time. Seems like a small amount huh? But wait! There's more! When i actually used the camera myself i got about 20 to 30 minutes of actual usability. Now you might be wondering why did i bring this up? After a long long time of no use the camera and the batteries refuse to work. Which means that now my cheap camera has morphed into a dead camera. I guess this is what i should expect from c...
