The Hiccups | Blog Post #22

Image
At the time of this writing, I am currently hiccuping (I feel like that's an appropriate use of the word). Not in the film, well actually, kinda. But I mean as I am writing I have the hiccups. Saying that though this pestering inconvenience actually brought about an idea. As we first discussed, our protagonist is under the influence of the antagonists before he fights for what is right. Of course, I suddenly realized perhaps I should display to the audience the crimes he has committed.  So I had this idea, what if now hear me out, our protagonist had held someone at knifepoint and taken their keys from them. Now you might be wondering just their keys? Nope, their keys and their car. So we have a quick action-packed sequence that displays the crimes the protagonists are doing for the antagonist. Now there are a couple problems with this, first, what are we doing for props and clothes, and do we have a location for this. The answer is Yes and Yes. For props and clothes, our clo...

Contemplation | Blog Post #21

Well my adoring fans! As I'm sure you have read about all of my shopping escapades, this blog post is being written the same day as the previous one. Its a later hour, and in the all engulfing darkness i had a realization. My posts have been growing much more casual, or rather they are speaking towards you all and giving my audience the attention they deserve. Over the past 8 or so blog posts i have been addressing you regularly and not really been as formal as the first post. I have been making jokes, creating plot points, and even turning my anxious errands into seemingly explorative mini-adventures. When i think of a blog post, a professional one, i think of one the regularly is personal, and yet addresses their audience. This way of thinking has changed how i write my posts. I originally wrote my posts with formal intentions seeing this as nothing more than a professional update on my progresses of my short film. Even in the previous year, i wrote similarly with my posts just a...

Shopping... Yet Again | Blog Post #20

You know what i realized when i was making this post? I looked at the names of my posts and have been thinking, these look corny or don't even flow right. Like what am I? An amateur? Anyways realization and contemplation aside, I have been busy this week shopping! Shopping for what you might ask? Something other than white shirts! Black apparel. So like yin and yang, its most definitely my luck to have a horrible time with shopping the black pants and jackets. Everything is so expensive! I remember the days when shirts were regularly 5 dollars and pants were 10. Where have those heavenly prices gone?! So i continue what i have always been doing, shopping. Seeing as how i work next to a mall i opted to shop this time on break at work! I went on break at 6:30, i raced down to the mall and went from store to store. After what seemed to be 20 minutes i had found the right over coat! This was a black oxford shirt with white buttons on it. This and the clean white shirt would certainly m...

Stinginess and Clothing Quality | Blog Post #19

Now before your mind wanders too far at the sight of the title, let's make one thing clear: I am a broke high school student with a part-time job desperately trying to support his lifelong dream of an experimental short film. Now that was a mouthful. Back to the topic at hand, however, I went on a small shopping excursion in search of clothes for my film. My two categories when shopping were, "How cheap can I be?" And "does this look the part?" For the first category, the answer to that is very cheap. One of my goals is to keep costs for this film lower than 100 dollars, unlike the previous year's film which made its way to the 500 dollars range. As costs tend to stack up on each other, I decided to be particularly cheap with my spending. The shirt I had in mind is a white shirt as It could be stained easily which when worn by a character, can allow the audience to perceive them as "poor" or even "helpless." As the previous post mentione...

Look at what shopping dragged in! | Blog Post #18

Image
If you haven't noticed, this is a play on the phrase "Look at what the cat dragged in." And while I would love to refer to myself to be as regal as a cat, I'm not one to engage in such narcissism. So today's post is a little different from the usual. Well, a lot actually. You see I work part time as I am a young budding cinematographer still in school. As a result, my weekends are never really free. However, I know what you have been thinking long before I got sidetracked: "Why the phrase?" Excellent question my perceptive audience! So as the aforementioned context suggests, I was at work when I decided to go on break. My workplace is next to a mall so I decided to take a little walk there and make embarrassing attempts at pick-up lines while I was at it. However, I passed by a storefront selling sports and got this; Camera equipment! At my excitement, I hurriedly walked in and immediately began to inspect everything very closely. In other words, I touc...

Ugh, picture arrangements; am I right? | Blog Post #17

A plan is great and all but do you know what's more important? Budgeting? Film location? Practice? Wrong. It's composition. Now I'm not saying that the others aren't important but I'm saying that all of your efforts in your other categories are all put to shame if you can't compose your image right. I am not trying to be correct on which is most important and if your looking to make a war in my comments on the blog about which is the most important, then I urge you to stop looking at this blog right by this period. SO! with that out of the way I decided to practice my composition with these 4 takes! Here we have   l'enfant endormi . That's French for the sleeping child. In this picture, we demonstrate composition by showing the subject face down in a book. The sprawled nature of the arms suggests that he's tired and not in full control, further adding to his sleepy nature. Another hint as to why we can tell he is sleepy is by the title... Additionall...
